Hive Games is a United Kingdom-based game studio providing development services and creating interactive playable content for existing well-established games.
Most of our work is with Microsoft on the Minecraft franchise. We operate one of the top Minecraft: Bedrock Edition servers, The Hive, and provide vendor services to Microsoft, creating and maintaining projects such as Chunker World Converter.

Expectations and Responsibilities
We are looking for a System Administrator to maintain, upgrade and manage our software and networks.
Resourcefulness is a necessary skill in this role. You should be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly. You should also have the patience to communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams.
Your goal will be to ensure that our technology infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently.
Hive Games utilizes a mix of bare metal servers, OpenStack Cloud and various Azure technologies. An ideal candidate has experience with most or all of these, or willingness to learn and expand their knowledge.
You will be joining a fast-growing team, and taking over various responsibilities from existing team members. You will be our first dedicated system administrator.
Responsibilities
- Install and configure software
- Manage network servers and technology tools
- Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
- Troubleshoot issues and outages
- Ensure security through access controls, backups and firewalls
- Upgrade systems with new releases and models
Requirements
- Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role
- Experience with databases, networks and patch management
- Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
- Ability to create and maintain scripts in Python, Perl or another language
- Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms
- Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
- Excellent communication skills
- Some knowledge of Minecraft and it's networking requirements is a plus
- Deep knowledge of Azure is a plus
